FAQ

Since there is no standard grading system nationwide or worldwide for pearls, it is important to understand the four major factors that determine the value of a pearl strand: shape, surface condition, luster and size. Watch these helpful video guides.

Definitely. When you check out, make sure you enter your girlfriend's address and write "no invoice". Our shipping staff is trained on sending orders out as gifts.

You want to give your loved ones a “surprise”, how do you know what length to choose? Most women wear 18 inches. However, if the gift receiver is big and tall, a 20 inch maybe what she needed. For men, 18 and 20 inches are the most common lengths.

Your beloved other half will be happy to add a black pearl necklace to her jewelry wardrobe. Or if she has a short 18-inch pearl necklace, you may want to buy her a longer 24-inch or 36-inch necklace to wear individually or as a layer. Coco Chanel loves to wear long pearl necklaces and stack them together. Long pearl necklaces are more modern while short pearl necklaces are more classical style. The recent trend is to stack different sizes and lengths of pearl strands together to create a modern look.

Start with a long necklace and a short necklace, then add one or two necklaces between the two. Always choose different sizes of pearls, at least two sizes in difference. For example, one 7-8mm strand with one 9-10mm strand.

Another option is to choose one long pearl necklace to stack with one or two short pendant necklaces or charm necklaces.

There are many ways you may wear your long necklace. Be creative. Here are some ideas from our jewelry stylist:

1. Wear the long pearl necklace with a short pearl necklace or a few short charm necklaces.

2. Wrap the long necklace around the neck to create a double strand necklace, or a choker necklace and a long necklace.

3. Wrap the long necklace around your wrist to make a multi-strand bracelet.

4. Wrap the long necklace around your waist to wear as a pearl belt.

Both natural and cultured pearls are grown by oysters, mussels or clams and are therefore considered valued jewels. The difference is that natural pearls begin by an accident in nature while cultured pearls are initiated by people. Imitation pearls, on the other hand, are man made by mechanical processes and have no real jewel value.

Pearl Romance only sells 100% real pearls. We provide a seller’s Certificate of Authenticity with each order placed.

An easy way to tell is to look at the individual pearls on the necklace. If each pearl is of exactly same size, shape and luster and without blemishes, it is likely to be fake.

Another way is to use the “tooth test”. You use your teeth to bite across the surface of a pearl. Real pearls will have a coarse feeling while fake ones feel smooth.

Real pearls have color overtones besides the dominant color. If the pearls on the necklace have slightly different overtones, it’s real.

Pearl Romance only sells 100% real pearls. No shell pearls or imitation pearls. We provide a seller’s Certificate of Authenticity with each order placed.

Pearls are priced according to its size, shape, luster, surface conditions:

C. Luster---the better the luster, the more expensive it is.

D. Surface condition---the cleaner the surface, the more expensive it is.

Pearl Romance provides a Pearl Care card with each pearl order.

Yes, absolutely. Cultured pearls simply mean the irritant that starts the pearl process is inserted into an oyster, mussel or clam by a human. Natural pearls mean the irritant was an accident in nature without human intervention.

No. Shell pearls are not real pearls. Pearl Romance does not sell shell pearls or any imitation pearls.

Cultured pearls can be freshwater pearls or saltwater pearls.

Nicely packed in a beautiful pouch or jewelry presentation box, your order comes with a Certificate of Authenticity Card and a Pearl Care card.

Yes, absolutely. We knot between each individual pearl with double silk threads to prevent loss if the necklace or bracelet breaks. All pearl pieces we sell are hand strung by our seasoned jewelers.

Some customers prefer cream white or ivory shade over bright white shade, and vice versa. This can be done by including a note requesting the specific shade during the checkout process. For example, you may request a “cream white” necklace when you place the order. Our shipping staff will pick the shade of your choice when sending out the order.

It is highly recommended that you buy the pearl set together because pearls tend to have different shades, or overtones. When you buy a set together, our seasoned jewelers match the shades carefully so that the overtones of your necklace, bracelet and earrings all match.

However, if your financial situation does not allow you to buy a set at the same time, you may mention the shade you want when you order later on.
